Ice Pick Experimental Trio è un ensemble elettroacustico. Il nucleo creativo è basato sulla ricerca di una poetica nella zona franca tra l’improvvisazione e la forma canzone nell’accezione più ampia di quest’ultima. Lo sviluppo del rapporto dialettico tra flauto e chitarra, il campionamento e la manipolazione in tempo reale del materiale sonoro, nella tradizione del live electronics, sono i principali ingredienti di questa ricetta sonora. La musica nel suo complesso risulta influenzata dalle sonorità della sperimentazione contemporanea, della computer-music, dell’ambient e dell’elettronica che si appoggiano su una struttura melodica legata all’armonia classica. Il trio si propone di creare opere elettroacustiche con una loro coerenza interna sia musicale che tematica.

Ice Pick è il primo lavoro ispirato alla storia delle tecniche chirurgiche per la cura dei malati mentali ed alla vita del dottor Walter Freeman. L'opera racconta la storia interiore di un paziente sottoposto a lobotomia transorbitale e cerca di ricostruire il paesaggio emotivo attraverso l’utilizzo di suoni inconsueti e la giustapposizione della timbrica del flauto e della chitarra e di campionamenti noise/industrial. L'utilizzo delle tecniche di quadrifonia e delle tecniche di spazializzazione crea un ambiente sonoro immersivo che coinvolge fisicamente l’ascoltatore durante la performance.

Ice Pick Experimental Trio is a musical project and an electroacoustic ensemble based in Venice composed by three musicians. The core aesthetics lives in the nobody's land between the improvisation and the song form in the broadest sense of the word. Live guitars and flute float in the soundscapes created using synthesizers and samples. the acoustics instruments are manipulated in real time using the techniques of the live electronics and the deconstruction of the sound matter create a tension between the real and the virtual world where the trio try to trap the audience. The music is influenced by the classical contemporary experimentation, computer music, ambient and electronics that cooperate to create a melodic structure based on the classical harmony. The project aims to create musical works with an internal coherence both structural and thematic.

Ice Pick is the title of the first work inspired by the recent history of the lobotomy technique and the life of Dr. Walter Freeman. We tell the story of a patient treated with transorbital lobotomy through his feelings and sensations trying to recreate his mental state using a sort of counterpoints between the flute and the guitar at one side and the industrial/noise samples on the other. The use of spatialization techniques create an immersive experience for the audience.
